On the 18 January and 25 February 2023, the Commonwealth Scholarships Alumni Association of Kenya (CSAAK) delivered information sessions at the University of Nairobi and the Technical University of Mombasa, Kenya to promote Commonwealth Scholarship opportunities.
The sessions were attended by representatives from the Ministry of Education, university deans and academics, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and Commonwealth Alumni.
The event opened with a welcome address from Dr Cromwell Kibiti and Dr Madiha Salim, the Director of Career Affairs at the Technical University of Mombasa. This was followed by an introduction to Commonwealth Scholarships which included a brief history of the programme and information on the application cycle.
Sharing the Commonwealth Scholar experience
During the sessions, attendees learned more about Commonwealth Scholarships and different opportunities for study, as well as how to apply. Ministry of Education representatives, John Gogo and MaryAnne Maraka, explained common mistakes during the application process and answered queries from attendees.
Through talks and a panel discussion, Commonwealth Alumni shared their experiences and key lessons learned during their CSC funded studies, and discussed opportunities available through the CSC Alumni Network.
Attendees were invited to share their questions and queries through an interactive Q&A. Following the sessions, the CSAAK were invited to deliver further sessions at different universities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and the British Council. They hope to develop this programme of support, alongside additional personal and professional development focused activities.
