Utilising research evidence to promote change in remote communities in Bangladesh
In this webinar, Commonwealth Alumnus Zinat Ara Afroze will discuss the ways and processes in which research evidence is utilised and disseminated to address development challenges faced by remote communities in Bangladesh.
Zinat will share her experience as the Research and Knowledge Management Lead for CARE Bangladesh’s Strengthening Household Ability to Respond to Development Opportunities (SHOUHARDO) III Plus project. She will highlight research projects carried out in the Char and Haor regions in Bangladesh, which assess the role of Private Community Skill Birth Attendants (PCBSAs) in improving access to maternal healthcare services. She will also discuss her work in analysing research findings on improved agricultural practices in these regions.
Finally, Zinat will discuss the importance of disseminating research evidence to advocate for change by engaging multisectoral stakeholders to influence policy.
This webinar will address the CSC development themes, Strengthening health systems and capacity and Strengthening resilience and response to crises.
The webinar will last for approximately one hour, including a Q&A session.
Post-webinar, attendees are invited to stay online and participate in a 30-minute open discussion on the webinar topic to exchange ideas and knowledge, seek out collaborators for their own work, and promote their research in this area.

Zinat Ara Afroze currently works as the Senior Team Leader – Knowledge Management, Research and Learning for CARE Bangladesh, in its flagship project SHOUHARDO III Plus. Prior to joining CARE Bangladesh, she worked with the British Council, Winrock International, ActionAid, and Transparency International.
Zinat is a development practitioner with expertise in designing in conducting qualitative research on various topics. Passionate about sustainability and agriculture, she has created a farmhouse in her hometown, which is home to over 200 species of plants, several birds, and butterflies. She introduces herself as a researcher, farmer, and traveller.
Zinat Ara Afroze is a 2017 Commonwealth Shared Scholar from Bangladesh. She completed an MSc in Environment and Development at University of Reading.
