Expecting the unexpected: building personal and professional resilience, in conversation with Commonwealth Alumnus Paballo Chauke

In this webinar, Commonwealth Alumnus Paballo Chauke, a Malaria Champion and Training Coordinator for MalariaGEN, will address some of the key challenges scholars may encounter on their return home and in acclimatising to their home and work environment, or new employment. The webinar will share practical steps scholars can take before returning home and how to manage this period.

The discussion will aim to address the following content:

  • Reverse culture shock
  • Preparing and planning to return home
  • Communicating personal and professional change in the workplace and with family/friends
  • Wellbeing and mental health
  • Creating return home plans
  • Preparing in advance for potential challenges

The webinar will last approximately 50 minutes and will be followed by a 20-minute networking session for attendees to share their thoughts and reflections on the topic.

The Preparing for Success webinar series aims to spotlight successful and senior alumni leaders and through an informal conversation, share important lessons and takeaways that scholars and new alumni can learn from. This includes learning about the positives and challenges that have influenced their achievements and successes.

Learning from alumni is a key way for Commonwealth Scholars coming towards the end of their studies to prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead. The new event series aims to show the extent to which these challenges and concerns are normal and affect even the most successful leaders.

The Preparing for Success series offers an opportunity for scholars to learn from four Commonwealth Alumni on the positives and challenges that have influenced their achievements and successes. Through an informal conversation, speakers will share important lessons and takeaways.
