The CSC is pleased to welcome Professor Robin Mason as the new Chair of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom.
Professor Robin Mason, who is also Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) and Professor of Economics at the University of Birmingham, as well as a decision-making Member of the Competition Appeal Tribunal and the Financial Conduct Authority, took up the post on 1 January 2022. He succeeds Mr Richard Middleton OBE in the role.
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) awards over 600 scholarships and fellowships for postgraduate study and professional development to Commonwealth citizens each year. The CSC contributes in unique ways to the UK’s international development objectives and to the UK’s wider overseas interests. In awarding scholarships and fellowships to some of the most able students and professionals, the CSC supports excellence in UK higher education, and sustains the values and mission of the Commonwealth. The CSC is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
Professor Robin Mason, commenting on his appointment, said ‘I am absolutely thrilled to have been selected by the FCDO to be Chair of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK. I have admired the great work of the CSC for many years and so I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to contribute to it as Chair.’
‘For over 60 years now, the CSC has given outstanding opportunities to tens of thousands of individuals, to the benefit of both their home countries and the UK. This extraordinary scheme is a prime example of how the UK uses its influence to transform lives, communities and countries. I look forward to working with the Commissioners and staff of the CSC Secretariat, and the many partners who contribute to the work of the Commission, as we look to expand further the profile and reach of the CSC.’
