On Thursday 6 July, Canadian Commonwealth Alumni living in and around London joined a private backstage tour of the Royal Opera House, hosted by Commonwealth Alumnus Dan Dooner (1984 Scholar), Staff Director of the Royal Opera House.

The Royal Opera, based in London, UK, is one of the world’s leading opera companies and is renowned for its outstanding performances of traditional opera and for commissioning new works. As Staff Director, Dan plays an integral role in the ensuring the smooth running of rehearsals and performances.

During an hour and a half backstage tour, Dan shared information on the history of opera and the Royal Opera House in London, his role as Staff Director, and shared insight on what it takes to deliver intensive opera programmes.

This opportunity was organised by the Canadian Association of Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows (CACSF).
