In March, the Lesotho Commonwealth Alumni Association (LCAA) delivered an information session on Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships. Held in Maseru, the session aimed to raise awareness of distance learning postgraduate study opportunities offered by UK universities.

Through alumni-led presentations, the session was designed to demystify international scholarships and provide practical guidance to prospective applicants on distance learning opportunities. Alumni shared their personal experiences of studying as distance learners and being a part of the Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships community.

The event brought together over 60 participants, including prospective applicants from Maseru, Berea, and Mafeteng Districts, Commonwealth Alumni, and young professionals interested. Lesotho Television provided coverage of the event, amplifying awareness of Commonwealth Scholarships and helping to reach a broader audience.

With a focus on practical guidance and peer learning, key topics included:

  • Overview of the Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship
  • Application processes and requirements
  • Characteristics of strong applications
  • Tips and lessons learned from Commonwealth Alumni
  • Managing work-study balance as a distance learner

Participants had the opportunity to engage directly with alumni and ask questions.

Following the session, participants reported an increased awareness of UK study opportunities and enhanced understanding of the application process. Several have reached out to alumni for further support and guidance.

Following the success of this event, LCAA intend to expand their outreach and deliver district-level information sessions in underserved areas. They also hope to engage more Commonwealth Alumni to host sessions and share their experiences on all Commonwealth Scholarship programmes.

If you are a Commonwealth Alumnus from or resident in Lesotho and would like to get involved in the association, you can find out more information on the CSC website.
