AI in the Workplace: Opportunities, Risks, and the Future of Work

On Friday 10 July, the British High Commission in Kenya will host a forward-looking discussion on the opportunities and risks of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the workplace. The event, jointly hosted by the British Council and the British High Commission, will bring together University of Birmingham alumni, Chevening and Commonwealth Alumni, and members of Alumni UK.

Objectives

• Explore emerging AI trends and applications across sectors
• Highlight alumni expertise in technology, innovation, policy, and workforce development
• Facilitate discussion on the impact of AI on jobs, skills, governance, and ethical considerations
• Strengthen UK–Kenya collaboration and knowledge exchange on innovation and the future of work
• Showcase the UK’s contribution to education, research, expertise and technology through its alumni community

The keynote speaker will be Kenya’s immediate former Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the EU, Professor Bitange Ndemo, a tech expert who previously served as a Permanent Secretary for ICT.

This hybrid event will comprise a panel discussion on “AI in the Workplace: Opportunities, Risks, and the Future of Work”, led by panellists with backgrounds in tech/AI, HR and the Future of Work, and policy and governance.
