The Preparing for Success webinar series aims to spotlight successful and senior alumni leaders and through an informal conversation, share important lessons and takeaways that scholars and new alumni can learn from. This includes learning about the positives and challenges that have influenced their achievements and successes.

Learning from alumni is a key way for Commonwealth Scholars coming towards the end of their studies to prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead. The new event series aims to show the extent to which these challenges and concerns are normal and affect even the most successful leaders.

The Preparing for Success series offers an opportunity for scholars to learn from four Commonwealth Alumni on the positives and challenges that have influenced their achievements and successes. Through an informal conversation, speakers will share important lessons and takeaways.

With a questionable sense of direction and an easily distracted mind captivated by shiny gadgets, Calvin Sim has navigated a winding career path. From contributing to cutting-edge teams in semiconductors and consumer genetics, his journey took an unexpected turn into the world of HR. Whilst getting lost, he discovered that working with people is interesting.

He has since been passionate about developing HR software solutions and founded Freeboh with his university mate to empower organisations to build and manage their flexible workforce.

He currently also serves on the Alumni Advisory Panel for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. He is very grateful for the opportunities the Commonwealth Scholarship afforded him during his time working on his PhD at Imperial College a rather long time ago.

Dr Calvin Sim is a 2002 Commonwealth Scholar from Singapore. He completed a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London.
