Alumni had the chance to share their experiences and views with stakeholders
Members of the Kenya CSC alumni association had a lunchtime meeting with Professor Jonathan Wastling, Commonwealth Scholarship Commissioner, on 21 January. The gathering allowed the alumni to engage in detailed discussions over the future direction and maximising the benefits of the scholarships and fellowships in Kenya.
The event took place at the Nairobi Serena Hotel and brought together alumni, representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science & Technology, and the British Council. Guests were able to share views on the nomination process for scholarships and fellowships, to discuss the number and provision of different types of scholarships and fellowships in the region, and to explore how the various stakeholders could work together in the future.
The association in Kenya has a strong commitment to professional and social development issues, having previously contributed to meetings with key decision makers such as representatives from the UK Foreign Affairs select committee at the British High Commission in Nairobi (May 2012). Jonathan Wastling praised the input by the CSC alumni, ‘Their professionalism and enthusiasm are clearly some of the greatest and longest-lasting assets of our programme – they are truly great ambassadors for the impact of our scholarships and fellowships.’
