Namibian Commonwealth alumni recently came together in Windhoek to welcome back four Commonwealth Scholars who finished their studies and returned home earlier this year.
The Hon Dr Becky Ndjoze-Ojo MP (Deputy Minister of Higher Education), Professor Osmund Mwandemele (Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Namibia), HE Jo Lomas (British High Commissioner to Namibia), and James Phillips (the CSC’s Senior Alumni Engagement Officer) addressed guests at the reception.
85 Namibians have benefited from a Commonwealth Scholarship since the first awards in 1992. They have studied a wide range of subjects, including community health, biodiversity conservation, economics, and water management.
At the event, James Phillips spoke of the importance of Namibian alumni keeping in touch with the CSC, so that their achievements can be promoted and celebrated when advertising future scholarship opportunities to fellow Namibian students. Dr Ndjoze-Ojo spoke of her wish for alumni to come together and form a local alumni association to help tackle challenges faced by the country.
