Beth Akinyi Odingo is a 2011 Commonwealth Professional Fellowship, who spent three months at Widows and Orphan International. She works as a Project Coordinator at the Omega Foundation in Kenya.
My role rotates around coordinating staff, volunteers, and the project. My fellowship took me through short training, conferences, events, and the sharing of work experience at the host organization and the Great Nile Trust organisation.
My fellowship will go a long way in helping me with internal staff and volunteer management. I hope to be a better supervisor with teams that are motivated to help the organisation get the best outputs. I have understood the key tips to strategic advocacy, which is a method I hope to use to change attitudes and behaviour as I work with the vulnerable groups of people affected and infected by HIV/AIDS, widows, and orphans. My experience in the UK has changed my outlook on life both socially and culturally.
