Dr Anil Prakash was awarded a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship to work at the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Manchester in 2005. There he worked under the mentorship of Dr Catherine Walton on the molecular identification of the mosquito vectors of malaria – helping to identify mosquitoes which transmit the disease.
His work with Dr Walton not only earned him the Scientist of the Year 2009 Award from the National Environmental Science Academy of India, but also funding from The Wellcome Trust in Britain to develop a three-year multi-site project in collaboration with Dr Walton and Dr Thaung H’laing from Myanmar.
‘Novel Approaches to the Determination of Geographical and Genomic Barriers to Ongoing Gene Flow in a Major Malaria Vector’ began in January 2010.
