Eligibility
To enter the 2014 Best Journal Article Prize, you must:
- Be currently studying for a PhD, OR
- Have submitted your PhD thesis within 48 months prior to the deadline for entries
The article you are entering for the Prize must be:
- An original research paper published, or accepted for publication, in a widely recognised peer-review journal of international or regional acclaim
- Sole- or first-authored by you
- Accepted for publication within 48 months of submission of your PhD, DPhil, or DLitt and reflect work undertaken during your Commonwealth Scholarship
- Entered for the Prize for the first time this year. If you have entered the Best Journal Article Prize in previous years, you may enter again this year – but you must submit a different article
Submissions from all disciplines are welcome.
How to enter
The CSC will email all eligible current and former Commonwealth Scholars with full details of how to enter. Entries must be made using the online entry form provided.
The deadline for entries for the 2014 prize has been extended to 24 October 2014. The winner and any commendations will be announced by the end of 2014.
To enter, you must submit:
- A copy of your article in PDF format, including proof of acceptance if not yet published
- A separate copy of your article abstract in PDF format (or pasted/entered directly into the form)
- A brief covering letter (no longer than 500 words) explaining how your article makes a distinctive contribution to its field
You must ensure that your full name is included in the filename for each separate document, to ensure that your whole entry can be collated for judging.
Terms and conditions
- Failure to comply with the terms as set out and to provide all information as requested may render your entry ineligible.
- The Best Journal Article Prize will be judged by a panel of experts and advisers appointed by the CSC.
- The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Should no papers be deemed suitable, the Prize will not be awarded.
- The Prize winner, and any entrants given commendations, should be willing to provide a photograph of themselves and to participate in relevant promotional coverage which may be undertaken by the CSC and Taylor & Francis.
- The CSC will use prize submissions as part of its Evaluation and Monitoring Programme, and all entrants should be willing to allow the CSC to include material in reports and on its website.
