In this webinar, Commonwealth Alumnus Dr Wasswa William will present on his PhD research on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) for cervical cancer diagnosis using pap-smears and share some of the opportunities and challenges of AI research in Africa. He will also speak about his own innovation, PapsAI, an AI powered digital platform that improves cervical cancer diagnosis and management in low and middle income countries (LMICs).
The webinar will last for approximately 1 hour, including a Q&A session.

Dr Wasswa William is a senior lecturer and Head of Department of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Uganda with expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI), medical imaging, and robotics. His interests are in digital health innovations that provide universal health coverage, especially to those living in hard to reach places. He is a CEO of Digital Health Uganda Ltd, a start-up which aims to revolutionise the health care system in Uganda through the use of AI, 3D printing, and cloud computing technologies to improve patient outcomes, while reducing the total cost of care.
Dr Wasswa William is 2018 Commonwealth Split-site Scholar from Uganda. He completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde and Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda.
