Commonwealth alumnus Susan North (1991 MA, Courtauld Institute of Art) recently met with 24 on-award Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows to talk about her work as a curator of fashion at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. At the event on Tuesday 06th December, Susan gave an overview of the history of the museum and her work, before providing a free tour for the scholars around the V&A’s ‘British Galleries’. The Scholars and Fellows were then able to attend the V&A’s current exhibition entitled ‘You Say You Want a Revolution? Records and Rebels, 1966-1970’.
The attending Scholars and Fellows represented 12 Commonwealth countries and are studying a range of courses including Commonwealth Fellows at ‘Learn to Recreate‘ which aims to provide fashion and textiles manufacture training to individuals to enable them to gain skills to create sustainable livelihoods for them and their communities.
If you are a Commonwealth alumnus who visits or travels through London and feel you would be able to give back to the scheme through a lecture or talk with current scholars about your work, please do get in touch with us at alumni@cscuk.org.uk
