The Farewell Event for Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows took place on 15 July 2019, with 175 Scholars from 26 countries attending.

The annual event, which was held in Australia House this year, celebrates the work of departing Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows and looks forward to their return home and staying connected with the CSC.

The Farewell Event also provides an opportunity for Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows to share their scholarship experiences and build important contacts for the future through networking. Scholars and Fellows are also reminded of the ways that they can stay connected with the CSC through the various Alumni networks in their home countries, as well as ways in which their progress can continue to be celebrated by the CSC community.

This year’s speakers included The Hon George Brandis QC, Australian High Commissioner to the UK; Dr Arjoon Suddhoo, Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General; Dr Joanna Newman, Chief Executive and Secretary General of the ACU; and Richard Middleton, Chair of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.

The Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows gathered in the Great Hall of the Australian High Commission to hear from the distinguished speakers and enjoyed canapés while networking with one another.

Also in attendance were representatives from 11 Commonwealth High Commissions, representatives from the Department for International Development, the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, and a range of academic advisers from universities across the UK.
