Dr Shashikala Inamdar was awarded a Commonwealth Academic Fellowship at the School of Clinical Sciences at the University of Liverpool and she was later selected to present the results of her work at the 23rd Annual Lectin Meeting hosted by the Universities of Stirling and Edinburgh.
In 2008, Shashikala was appointed Lead Indian Researcher for the UK-India Education and Research Initiative, heading a project aiming to help develop a drug to fight colon cancer. She has found that her Commonwealth Fellowship has helped her teaching and research:
[It] has given me academic strength, to motivate my students, and also inspired me to continue my collaboration with the same research group in the UK.
