The ACU has been asked by AusAID to undertake a small scoping study to inform the development of the AusAID Research Strategy 2011-15 and Australia-Africa Research Partnerships Programme, which will sit underneath the strategy.
The aim of the programme will be to assist African and Australian institutions to undertake high quality research in support of African economic growth and progress against the MDGs.
The purpose of our study is to explore the current priorities and needs of a selection of African research organisations and research users within a series of key thematic areas (including agriculture/food security, water/sanitation, child/maternal health, peace/conflict, natural resources management and public policy). We are keen to understand what African researchers would value in terms of potential Australian support and links with Australian research centres.
Comments from former African Commonwealth Scholars working in these areas would be welcome. We are particularly interested to know where current gaps may exist in research funding and support, and the type of funding which would be most valuable.
