Celebrating 65 years of Commonwealth Scholarships around the global.
In 2024-25, alumni associations around the globe have been hosting special events to mark the 65th anniversary, bringing together alumni from across the decades to reflect on their experiences and connect in new and interesting ways.
Here’s our round-up of the global anniversary events.
Strengthening our alumni network
There are currently Alumni Associations in 21 countries across the Commonwealth. All managed by alumni volunteers, Alumni Associations host activities and events to strengthen the alumni network in their countries and build connections that support development impact.

Latest alumni events
Governance in a changing world
The Canadian Association of Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows (CACSF) hosted an expert panel discussion and reception to celebrate the transformative impact of Commonwealth Scholarships across generations.
The panel explored the geopolitical impact of the 2024 US elections on the UK and Canada, and featured distinguished alumni Emma Richardson, a senior advisor at Global Affairs Canada, and Victoria Lennox, President Emeritus of Startup Canada.
Leading from the front
In Ghana, the alumni association held a special networking event at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to discuss their collective achievements and inaugurate a new executive committee to lead the association.
During the event, alumnus Professor Frances Thelma Owusu Daaku spoke about the profound impact of her scholarship which had helped propel her into a pioneering position as Ghana’s first female professor in pharmacy.
Protecting the planet
In its first in-person event since the outset of COVID-19, the Malaysia Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association welcomed 40 alumni for a day of workshops and in-depth conversations.
Following an expert talk by Dr Fong Chng Saun, Alumni examined the theme of planetary health and how they might contribute to initiatives such as sustainable green cities and recycled building materials.
The spirit of togetherness
Commonwealth Alumni in Zambia came together in the spirit of ‘ubuntu’ (togetherness) to test their mettle in a series of individual and team tasks. From traversing a muddy obstacle course to building a tower from straws and marshmallows, alumni had to step out of their comfort zone and work together in overcoming the various challenges they encountered.
Building a resilient future
The Solomon Islands Commonwealth Scholars Alumni Association (SICSAA) hosted an event in recognition of Scholars’ contributions to the Solomon Islands and other Pacific nations. Featuring special guests John Iromea from the Solomon Islands Tertiary Education and Skills Authority and Emma Davis, Deputy British High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands, the event also highlighted new opportunities open to Solomon Islanders, including the King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme (KCFP) and the CSC’s new stream of scholarships for Small Island Developments States (SIDS).
