Time magazine named alumnus Mark Carney (Commonwealth Scholar, DPhil Economics, University of Oxford), currently Governor of the Central Bank of Canada, as one of the world’s 100 most influential people in a recent spring issue.

The magazine notes Carney’s continued vigilance following the international banking crises, urging banks to hold sufficient capital and cautioning Canadians against increasing personal debt. Canada was one of the few economies to escape recession and banking problems.

Carney was included in the Leaders category alongside names such as Barack Obama, President of the United States.
