Dr Joseph Oyediran Popoola held a Commonwealth Scholarship to study for a PhD in Environmental Planning at the University of Nottingham in 1981. He is a consultant architect at Poparch Associates Ltd. Kaduna Nigeria.
Joseph has worked on the Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, Kano Nigeria, a 120-bed facility and the first of its kind of Nigeria, pioneered by the Kano State Government. After the design was produced in August, 2008, and construction began in May, 2009. The five units all link to a central walkway. The hospital design concept combines the spatial needs of a hot, dry environment with modern medical requirements. The Façade depicts traditional northern Nigerian elements of the dome and arc.
