On Tuesday 30 January, the CSC Alumni Team launched the 2024 CSC Development in Action webinar series. To kickstart the series, the team hosted a special conversation event with recent CSC Research Impact Award (RIA) winners, Commonwealth Alumni Maryam Bashir and Dr Cornelius Dodoo, about the impact of their doctoral research.
This webinar addressed the CSC development themes of Science and technology for development and Strengthening health systems and capacity.
The CSC’s Development in Action webinar series aims to highlight the work and research of Commonwealth Alumni across a range of development impact areas.
About the speakers
Maryam Bashir’s expertise is in organic chemistry with a focus on developing synthetic processes of drug discovery and development.
Maryam is a 2020 Commonwealth Split-site Scholar from Pakistan. She is currently completing a PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Bristol and the University of the Punjab, Lahore.
Dr Cornelius Dodoo is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana. He serves as the Ghana Lead for the University College London Hospitals, University of Health and Allied Sciences, and Ho Teaching Hospital Health Partnership.
Cornelius is a 2010 Shared Scholar and 2013 Commonwealth Scholar from Ghana He completed his MSc in Drug Delivery and a PhD in Pharmacy at UCL School of Pharmacy.
Delivering research impact
In this webinar, Maryam and Cornelius shared the findings from their winning research articles and discussed their ongoing role in implementing their research and contributing to the real-world change. Following the presentation, the speakers spoke about the development impact potential of their research, the challenges they faced as researchers, and the future scope of their research in the pharmaceutical and health sectors.
This webinar presentation was followed by an interactive Q&A session with Commonwealth Scholars and Alumni. A recording of this webinar will be available to view in due course on the CSC’s YouTube channel where you can also watch previous events in the series.
