Reintegration Event and Climate Dialogue

Date: 02/12/2021

Duration: 17:00-20:00

Location: Lusaka

Welcome home recently returned Commonwealth Scholars from Zambia and take part in climate

This event will provide an opportunity to welcome home recently returned Commonwealth Scholars from Zambia following their studies in the UK and introduce them to the local alumni network. It will also be an opportunity for new alumni to share their experiences of studying during the pandemic and identify future areas of support.

This is an opportunity for recently returned Scholars to make valuable connections with fellow Commonwealth Alumni who could provide guidance and support towards achieving professional and developmental goals.

Discussion on the impact of climate change

Zambia has been experiencing the adverse impacts of climate change, including an increase in the frequency and severity of seasonal droughts, occasional dry spells, increased temperatures in valleys, flash flooding, and changes in the growing season. In response to these impacts, Zambia is working to develop sustainable and appropriate programmes for both crops and livestock in the face of climate change. Some of Zambia’s adaptation measures include: solar electricity, promotion of irrigation and efficient use of water resources, strengthening early warning systems and preparedness, and using GIS/remote sensing in mapping of drought and flood prone areas (UNDP, 2019).

A further networking session will be held for Commonwealth Alumni from different professional backgrounds and other stakeholders to discuss the impact of climate change on various sectors in Zambia.

If you are a recently returned Commonwealth Scholar or Commonwealth Alumnus from Zambia and would like to attend this event, please contact Buumba Siamalube at Buumba.Siamalube@britishcouncil.org.zm
