From Indian Navy to international trade: Commonwealth Scholarships enabling career transitions
In this webinar, Commonwealth Alumnus Lt Cdr Bidisha Pandey (Retd) will share her motivations to serve in the Indian Navy and later pursue a career in international trade.
Bidisha will share her motivation to expand her career beyond defence, inspired by a broader desire to contribute to economic and social prosperity. She will discuss how the Commonwealth Scholarship was pivotal in facilitating the transition and introduced her to diverse perspectives and deep insights into global trade, development, policy, and diversity and inclusion.
This webinar will address the CSC development theme, Promoting Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The webinar will last for approximately one hour, including a Q&A session.
The CSC’s Development in Action webinar series provides an opportunity for Commonwealth Scholars and Alumni to present on their work and contribution to development across a range of contemporary global challenges and provide insight into ongoing research and action.
Open to all Commonwealth Scholars and Alumni, the monthly webinars will address one of the CSC’s six development themes and provide an opportunity for attendees to engage in real-time Q&A discussion on the topic presented.

Lt Cdr Bidisha Pandey is the Director, Trade and Investment at the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (ATIC) in New Delhi, India. She presently facilitates bilateral trade between India and Australia in the Aersopace, Advanced Manufacturing and Space sectors. She is also the Diversity and Inclusion co-lead for Austrade South Asia.
Previously, Bidisha served as the Logistics Officer in the Indian Navy for a decade and retired in July 2021. She led the naval marching contingents during Republic Day Celebrations and International Fleet Review and represented the Indian Navy in the Trans-Atlantic Cape to Rio International Ocean Sailing Expedition 2017. She has received commendations from the Indian Navy and prestigious awards like the Celebrating Women in Maritime Award during her service tenure.
Bidisha Pandey is a 2021 Commonwealth Shared Scholar from India. She completed an MSc in Prosperity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship at University College London.
