Improving teaching practices in crisis settings

In this webinar, Commonwealth Alumnus Siddharth Pillai will discuss the opportunities and challenges of improving teaching and coaching practices in crisis settings.

The world is in a state of educational emergency with more than half of the world’s children expected to finish school without being able to read.

As government and non-governmental organisations across the world try to improve teaching in crisis contexts, they face a unique set of challenges. These include unprepared learners, unskilled and unmotivated teachers, and limited resources and school management that impact teaching and learning.

However, there are evidence-based practices that demonstrate impact under these conflict contexts. This webinar will discuss the opportunities and challenges in the implementation of high quality  evidence-based practices in crisis contexts, using Afghanistan and Sierra Leone as case studies.

This webinar will address the CSC development theme, Access, Inclusion and Opportunity.

The CSC’s Development in Action webinar series provides an opportunity for Commonwealth Scholars and Alumni to present on their work and contribution to development across a range of contemporary global challenges and provide insight into ongoing research and action.

Open to all Commonwealth Scholars and Alumni, the monthly webinars will address one of the CSC’s six development themes and provide an opportunity for attendees to engage in real-time Q&A discussion on the topic presented.

You can watch previous webinars on the CSC’s YouTube channel.
