Time: 15:00-16:00 (BST)

Interrogating the complexities of terrorism

In this webinar, Commonwealth Alumnus Dr Emanuel Patrick Quashie will discuss his research on terrorism in the Caribbean.

Drawing on research conducted during his Commonwealth PhD Scholarship, Dr Quashie will outline how the findings shaped his forthcoming book, ‘Stakeholders of Terrorism and the Caribbean: A Short Case Study’, which presents a systematic interpretation of terrorism-related activism and expanding our understanding of terrorism more broadly. Developing on the ‘Stakeholders of Terrorism’ concept, Dr Quashie will discuss the inherent duality, encompassing positive and negative aspects, of most situations concerning terrorism-related activism.

During the webinar, Dr Quashie will speak about his journey as a Commonwealth Scholar in conducting research on this nuanced topic. He will also discuss practical recommendations for reducing the Caribbean region’s vulnerability to terrorism, and enhancing its preparedness for tackling terrorist activities.

This webinar will address the CSC development theme of Strengthening Global Peace, Security, and Governance.

The webinar will last for approximately one hour, including a Q&A session.

The CSC’s Development in Action webinar series provides an opportunity for Commonwealth Scholars and Alumni to present on their work and contribution to development across a range of contemporary global challenges and provide insight into ongoing research and action.
