Joseph Adeola FuwapeProfessor Joseph Adeola Fuwape was awarded a Commonwealth Fellowship at the University of North Wales, Bangor, in 1991. His research interests include pyrolytic conversion of plant biomass to bio-fuel, design/construction and performance evaluation of solar timber kiln, bio-chemical conversion of cellulose materials to ethanol and bio-diesel synthesis from pure plant oil.

In 2009, Joseph was a visiting scientist at the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of West Virginia Morgantown, and developed collaborative research with Professor Ben Dawson on bio diesel potentials of selected African oily seed plants. The progress report of the research indicated that combustion properties of Jathropha curcas oil have been determined while there is ongoing research on its use in powering internal combustion engines.

Joseph has also been a visiting scholar in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Oxford, 1992, and has held a number of grants from international organisations and governments. He was also a visiting research scientist to the University Institute of Virginia, Blacksburg US in July 2008 and April 2009.
