On Thursday 26 August 2021, the CSC Alumni Team hosted the latest webinar in the Knowledge Hub series. Commonwealth Alumnus Michal Camejo-Harry presented on the topic, ‘Volcano monitoring in the Eastern Caribbean: A chronicle of collaboration and resilience’. The webinar addressed the CSC theme, Strengthening resilience and response to crises.

About the speaker
Michal Camejo-Harry is a 2016 Commonwealth Split-site Scholar from Trinidad and Tobago. She completed her PhD in Applied Geology from the University of Bristol and University of West Indies.
Michal is a passionate volcanologist, specialising in volcano deformation and the changes to volcano ground surface conditions as well as igneous petrology, the study of rocks formed from volcanic magma. She is currently based at the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre where she is part of the scientific team responsible for monitoring volcanoes in the English-speaking islands of the Eastern Caribbean.
Volcano monitoring in the Eastern Caribbean: A chronicle of collaboration and resilience
In this webinar, Michal Camejo-Harry discussed her academic journey into the field of volcanology and her personal experience working on Caribbean volcanoes, including the recently erupted volcano in St. Vincent.
Michal’s presentation explored the collaborative strategies that have been employed in the region to reduce volcanic risks and the response to volcanic crises. During the webinar, Michal highlighted the work carried out in monitoring the La Soufrière volcano in St. Vincent and the post-eruption impact on human life and the natural habitat in the area. Michal also spoke about the road map and future planning that was in place to overcome the damage caused by the eruption earlier this year.
The webinar presentation was followed by an interactive Q&A session with Commonwealth Scholars and Alumni.
