The second CSC workshop of the academic year saw Scholars come together on 30 June 2016 at the University of Glasgow to learn about entrepreneurship.
Specifically aimed at improving Scholars’ potential to contribute to the needs of their home country, the workshop focused on the practical skills needed to start and run a successful organisation.
The workshop was delivered jointly by the University of Glasgow’s Adam Smith Business School and the Scottish Institute for Enterprise, and saw 27 Scholars explore a number of key areas in entrepreneurship, including creativity, business model design, and future readiness.
Scholars who attended felt that the workshop gave them a new perspective on business creativity and innovation, and introduced them to useful decision making, problem solving, and planning tools. According to some, the most useful aspect was discovering the importance of creativity in a business design, and the nine pillars of a business model and how they interact.
Scholars have already developed ideas for how they will use the workshop training, including:
‘I will utilise the professional and practical skills which I gained through the workshop in developing a business in my home country.’
‘I will use the training to sharpen my entrepreneurial skills. Particularly, I will use the business model as a planning, decision making and problem solving tool. I have learnt how to anticipate and plan for future market trends and this will go a long way to help me prepare for future consumer expectations and market shifts.’
‘I will apply it in any setup. I have to be dynamic in preparing for the uncertainties in the future.’
