On 20 June, the Commonwealth Scholarships Alumni Association of Kenya (CSAAK) launched their year-long series of talks and activities on wealth creation. The first talk of the series focused on understanding taxation and financial well-being.
CSAAK President, Sarah Amoit Okimaru opened the event by introducing the new series and the guest speaker, Georgina Atieno, a passionate accounting professional and founder of Zalisafe Kenya Limited, tax consultancy firm.
Supporting national economic well-being
Georgina and her colleague, Luke, discussed tax provisions and their implications for wealth creation and shared tax planning strategies to minimise tax liabilities. They emphasised the importance of understanding tax laws and regulations to avoid penalties and ensure compliance, whilst highlighting the current tax regime in Kenya and its challenges for businesses. They also provided an in-depth overview of taxation in Kenya, discussing different types of taxes, deadlines and applicable rates.
In their concluding remarks, the speakers stressed the importance of maintaining proper tax practices to safeguard financial stability and contribute to the overall national economic well-being.
Following the formal presentation, attendees participated in a Q&A discussion.
