Restoring Uganda’s fragile ecosystems: a multi-stakeholder impact model

In this webinar, Commonwealth Alumnus, Dr Felly M Tusiime will discuss Uganda’s flagship project, Strengthening the Adaptive Capacity and Resilience of Communities (SACRiAC), a pioneering initiative designed to restore fragile ecosystems and safeguard the country’s natural heritage.

Uganda’s landscapes are under mounting pressure. From the rapidly degrading forests of the Mt Elgon ecosystem to the threatened wetlands of the Awoja catchment, critical environments are approaching a tipping point. The SACRiAC project, led by the Ministry of Water and Environment and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the African Development Bank (AfDB), is mapping a bold path forward. By using an innovative multi‑stakeholder impact model, the project brings together government, communities, and development partners to protect Eastern Uganda’s most vulnerable ecosystems.

Felly will share insights from the field in implementing the project, highlighting lessons learned, what’s driving success, and how this collaborative model can be scaled for broader impact.

This webinar will address the CSC development theme, Strengthening resilience and response to crises

The CSC’s Development in Action webinar series provides an opportunity for Commonwealth Scholars and Alumni to present on their work and contribution to development across a range of contemporary global challenges and provide insight into ongoing research and action.

Open to all Commonwealth Scholars and Alumni, the monthly webinars will address one of the CSC’s six development themes and provide an opportunity for attendees to engage in real-time Q&A discussion on the topic presented.
