Who bears the cost of our clothes? Circular economy and textile waste in Ghana.

Commonwealth Alumnus Judith Akoto will reveal how Ghana’s textile and fashion sector is applying circular economy principles to address textile waste. She will share examples of reuse, repair, and upcycling that are bringing new life into discarded fabrics and driving positive change in the sector.

Drawing on research and field insights, Judith will explain how these innovative approaches champion sustainable consumption and production (SDG 12) and support climate action (SDG 13), while creating livelihood opportunities.

The Ghana case study will showcase the real-world impact of circular practices, the challenges involve, and valuable lessons that can inform sustainable development throughout Africa and across the Commonwealth.

This webinar will address the CSC development theme, Promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.

The CSC’s Development in Action webinar series provides an opportunity for Commonwealth Scholars and Alumni to present on their work and contribution to development across a range of contemporary global challenges and provide insight into ongoing research and action.

Open to all Commonwealth Scholars and Alumni, the monthly webinars will address one of the CSC’s six development themes and provide an opportunity for attendees to engage in real-time Q&A discussion on the topic presented.
