A new policy report brings together 36 innovative environmental ideas designed over the course of 24 hours by Chevening, CSC and Marshall Alumni from over 50 countries around the world.
A policy “hackathon” coinciding with COP26 in late 2021 brought together 150 alumni from the three scholarship programmes and gave them a focused period of time to develop innovative solutions to global environmental issues.
From coastal planning to food systems, zero-carbon vehicles, and much more – a wide range of ideas were put forward to address challenges covered by the COP26 goals (climate finance, mitigation, adaptation and collaboration).
Teams presented their policies to a panel of expert judges from academia and government. An overall winner then had the opportunity to present their policy at a roundtable event featuring senior government ministers and climate negotiators to coincide with the UK’s COP26 summit in Glasgow in November.
The event was created to bring scholarship alumni together at a national and transnational level to propose solutions to some of the most prevalent climate change issues, as well as to support the UK government’s environmental priorities in the year of COP26. Alumni had the chance to network and learn from experts across the UK government’s scholarship schemes and develop their own thinking and expertise.
The policy proposals are published with the aim of showcasing the innovative ideas that were developed during the hackathon to a global audience, as well as the talent, expertise, and leadership in the Chevening, CSC and Marshall scholarships networks.
