In November and December 2022, Commonwealth Alumnus Joshua Epuitai delivered two online awareness webinars on, ‘Empowering midwives to health educate women during routine antenatal care on the effects of household air pollution (HAP) from cooking fuels’, in Uganda. The activity promotes the 2022/23 ACEF theme, Clean energy, Air and Oceans.

Promoting skills development opportunities for internally displaced girls and young people in Cameroon

In December 2022 and January 2023, Commonwealth Alumnus Tabemonso Tabeagbor delivered a campaign to promote skills development opportunities for girls and young people in Limbe, Cameroon. The campaign aimed to raise awareness of vocational training opportunities for internally displaced girls aged between 5-17 years and vulnerable people aged between 18-35 years whose lives and education has been affected by the Anglophone Crisis in the Southwest region of Cameroon.

Human rights in relation to sexual orientation and gender identity are a pressing issue across the Commonwealth. Due to the colonial legacy of homophobia, anti-LGBT legislation and discrimination of the LGBT+ community is significantly over-represented in this group of nations; 63% of Commonwealth countries criminalise homosexual activity compared to 35% globally.

Helping girls achieve their goals through football

On 16-17 July 2022, the Commonwealth of Dominica Scholars Alumni Association (CDCSAA) collaborated with the Dominican Football Association (DFA) to deliver the event, ‘Girls with Goals’, for the National Under 15 (U-15) Girls Football Team. The event aimed to promote equality, diversity and representation of girls in sport.
